- Ardour (audio processor) :Ardour is a hard disk recorder and digital audio workstation application. It runs on GNU/Linux and Mac OS X. Its primary author is Paul Davis, who is also responsible for the JACK Audio Connection Kit. Ardour's intention is to provide digital audio workstation software suitable for professional use.
- Audacity :Audacity is a digital audio editor and recording application. Audacity is cross-platform and is available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and BSD. It was created by Dominic Mazzoni while he was a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University. it is a free software.
- CDex :CDex is a CD ripper for Microsoft Windows. Released under the GNU General Public License, CDex is free software. As of August 2007, it is the 8th most popular download on SourceForge.net, with over 32 million downloads. It is developed and maintained by Georgy Berdyshev. It was originally written by Albert L. Faber.
- Grip audio ripper :Grip is a free Compact Disc player and CD ripper within the GNOME project.Development began in 1998, and it was registered as a project at the SourceForge.net free and open-source software website on March 17, 2000.
- JACK Audio Connection Kit : The JACK Audio Connection Kit or JACK is a sound server daemon that provides low latency connections between so-called jackified applications, for both audio and MIDI data. It is created by Paul Davis and others.As of 2008 it runs on Linux, FreeBSD and Mac OS X. Another implementation of jack, called JACKDMP, supports Windows as well. JACKDMP was recently renamed JACK 1.9, and will eventually become JACK 2.
- Jokosher :Jokosher is a free, non-linear multi-track audio editor, the source code of which is released under the GNU GPL. It is being developed in Python, using the GTK+ interface and GStreamer as an audio back-end, for the Linux operating system; although future versions may have ports to other operating systems .
- Linux MultiMedia Studio :Linux MultiMedia Studio, or LMMS, is a free (licensed under GPL), Linux-based alternative to popular programs such as FL Studio, Cubase and Logic Pro. Music can be produced by creating/synthesizing sounds, arranging samples, and playing live with a MIDI keyboard.
- MusE :MusE is a MIDI/Audio sequencer with recording and editing capabilities written by Werner Schweer. MusE aims to be a complete multitrack virtual studio for Linux: it currently has no support under other platforms as it relies on Linux-only technologies, including JACK and ALSA.It is a free software.
- Rosegarden :Rosegarden is a free software digital audio workstation program developed for Linux with ALSA and KDE. It acts as an audio and MIDI sequencer, scorewriter and musical composition and editing tool. It is intended to be a free replacement for such applications as Cubase.
- Streamripper :Streamripper is a stand-alone client or Winamp plugin that records Internet radio streams in the MP3 or Vorbis formats. It has an ability to override existing files in the save folder.
- SoX :Sound eXchange, abbreviated SoX, is a free cross-platform digital audio editor, licensed under the GNU General Public License, and distributed by Chris Bagwell through SourceForge.net. SoX is written in standard C, and has a command line interface.
- Mixxx :Mixxx is open source digital DJ’ing software that allows an individual to mix music together using a personal computer, as a DJ would with a pair of physical turntables.
